Distributor Removal

Post by Dave S » Sat Aug 01, 2026 9:22 am

Morning all,
I am looking to remove distributor from engine block. I dont want to damage anything so until I understand how it works I will hold off. I have undone bolt holding pointer and released the clamp. I need to pull this to give me better access to the water exit elbow bolts one nearest is out of kilter and will need assistance to release and heat may damage the Distributor. Is it possible or can the drive only come free internal to the engine block? Car 1936 Lichfield. :D

Hi Dave
Before removing the distributor, mark the distributor body and the clamp so it can be replaced in the same postion and note and record the position of the distributor rotor arm so it can be replace in the exactly the same position. You can replace the distributor so the rotor arm is in the wrong position and then your ignition timimg will be incorrect. Oh and once the distributor is removed dont turn over the engine or again you will have to reset the ignition timing.
