Thank you, Peter. Am interested in the van but it is not Isle of Wight registered (actually Canterbury). Do not think it has a V5 so very difficult to get the original number back. Definitely not registered in Dec 37 as these vans were not made after August 37 and the chassis number, which is correct, is Feb 37.
Will find out more as going to the auction fits nicely with Dewstow on 1st Sept which we were planning to attend.

Apologies. The van has got a V5 (that shows the first regn date as Dec37 which is still incorrect as the JG registration finished before that and 9127 coincides with Feb 37.)

Yes I had spotted that. Late '37 would have to be a GVA van in Cambridge style. I suspect that at some time this van has been "attributed" a date of 31 Dec 1937 so as to get it onto a datbase. Computer databases often will not accept just a year and require an exact date. On the Club database it is shown as 1 Jan 1937, probably also erroneous. Chassis No G115267, Car (body) No. GV115267 according to Club records. No engine number.

Looks as though it may be a probate sale so the auctioneers are dependent on whatever records they can find.

It is a probate sale for a member of many years. Crossed swords with him in the 1990s when he borrowed one of the back doors off my 1937 10 van but did not return the hinges. Got it sorted with Elaine's help. He had a pair of back doors and hinges made up from scratch as well as many body panels by a guy in Chertsey/Shepperton area. The guy tried hard to sell me the wood patterns he had made for Eric but my van was more or less complete.
I first saw the van in photos in the mid-eighties when the then owner, (also a former member) visited us in Tunbridge Wells where we lived at the time to look at our van (in bits under a tarpaulin at the end of our garden).
We will make an effort to go and see this van but will not be buying - we are too old for another project unfortunately, but 5 years ago I would have bid silly money to get it!!!!
My van was G108848 reg on 1/1/37 on the Isle of Wight, and using the Cambridge chassis numbers in Members List 1995, mid Feb should be about right for this van.

Spoke to the auctioneer. Owner has been in a nursing home for some time due to a severe stroke.
Van has all the bits incl engine which will be with it on auction day. 'The spray standard is excellent'. All the vehicles being sold, bar the van and the 15, are working. However, from long experience, I would doubt the van could be on the road within 18 months. Hopefully I will be proved wrong. There are no reserve prices (but they will not be sold for silly money). You can bid on the phone for no extra charge but internet is 3% charge plus vat. (Did you notice the Lichfield had been owned by Roddy LLewellyn at one time?)

Thefirst 8 vehicles went for the following hammer prices, plus 10% buyers commission (plus vat)
1934 Austin 7 barn find which looked dreadfull but drove well £2050
1936 Ruby, very nice £3500
1927 Chummy, lovely condition £7700
1937 Austin 10 Van, £1500
1936 Lichfield ,£2200
1933 Austin 10 4 str tourer £5800
1935 Austin 12 Ascot £2900
1913? Austin 15 £19000
We left then but it was interesting. I bought a 1932 rad which looks unused with a modern core for £36.50 incl buyers premium.
Elaine was very patient and I resisted the urge to bid on the van.
Dewstow tomorrow.

There is a similar report on the Austin Seven Friends web site, a decent Chummy for under 8 grand hasn't been seen for years, but the fact is that pre war car prices have plummeted this year (rare and desirable thoroughbreds accepted, of course) I was shocked to see we’ll known Seven man Wayne Horn selling a very solid looking and nicely running ten for under three grand on the Austin Ten f@ebook site @nd saying he may be forced to break it if it doesn’t sell, which would be a travesty.

However, some original Austin parts sold via eBay are making silly money, I don’t know whether it is bidding wars or whatever, but you can buy some of these parts from the ATDC Spares and our cherished suppliers for a fraction of the price.

Anyway, best get back in the shed and get the engine out.

I notice the very usable 1933 Austin 10 4 str tourer that sold at the auction for £5800 plus 10% is on ebay for £7999 so no time wasted there.
Noticed 2 very respectable 1934 Cabriolets on ebay for £8500 and £8750 respectively. Last year they would have been over £10000?
