Notifiable Medical Conditions - DVLA

In law UK drivers are required to notify the DVLA of any medical conditions that may affect their driving (RTA1988 Sec94, Highway Code 90). There are specific medical conditions that MUST be notified by DVLA and for which DVLA will withdraw their driving licence, temporarily until the health condition is mitigated, or permanently.
But the list is neither shown in the Highway Code (other than eyesight requirements HC92) nor widely publicised. As a consequence many drivers find themselves at risk of a fine for not declaring a condition on the DVLA list. Illogically some medical interventions that would avoid a sudden unexpected health crisis on the road are listed as notifiable.

- diabetes or taking insulin
- syncope (fainting)
- heart conditions including atrial fibullation & pacemakers
- sleep apnoea
- epilepsy
- strokes
- glaucoma
