Leather oil seals

Post by Steviewizz » Fri Mar 28, 2025 5:46 pm

Hi All
Has anyone had experience of fitting leather oul seals on a rear axle 1936 Austin 10.
Got the old seals out!
How do the new ones push in ?
Do they need to be lubricated beforehand etc

Thanks

Steve

Hi Steve

The leather oil seals need to be soaked in engine oil for a few days before fitting them to make them easy to fit. The oil seal is clamped between the
two sections of the oil flinger.
And this is held in place by the castellated nut.
Unfortunately I cant attach a picture in this section of the website. If you are a ATDC member pictures can be attached in that section.

ATDC technical fact sheet No 2 Back Axle Oil Seals is what you need. Login to the members area on the main website (not this forum) and using the green drop-down menu on the top right go to Technical Documents then scroll down the screen to the one you want. You can download this and print it off.
For some unknown reason No 2 is not near the top of the page

Hi Steve

Go to the members area at the top R/H side and click on the General section. You then have to log in again.
This gets you to the members area of the website which has various sections.
The technical documents that peter mentioned are invaluable pieces of information.
